Breeding of cereals for quality

Ao.Univ.Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Heinrich Grausgruber

Gebiet: wheat, barley, quality

Research topics: The selection for adaptation and quality in wheat, including the “ancient” species einkorn, emmer, khorassan wheat and (hulless or “naked”) barley for food purpose, are in our focus. Special emphasis is on the study of genotype x environment interactions on plant traits and on breeding for high concentrations of specific health promoting compounds ( e. g. beta glucan, carotinoids, anthocyans etc.). Additionally concepts for plant breeding in organic farming are developed and shall be put into praxis together with breeding companies.
